Ganesh Chaturthi – Why and How We Celebrate it in India?

Ganesh chaturthi is one of the most important festivals in India. People in all over India celebrates it with full joy and energy. But the festival is more famous in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Odisha and Goa. Ganesh chaturthi is marked as the birth of Lord Ganesh. In Hindu mythology, Ganesha is considered as the lord of new beginnings and removal of obstacles (Vighan harta). Every indian should know this that Ganesh chaturthi became popular in india after the celebration initiated by Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1893.

How India celebrates Ganesh chaturthi?

 

People of india and indian diaspora in the world install the lord’s Ganesha idols in their houses. The prasads and offerings include Modaks and different types of sweets. The joy and happiness has different level. People recites hyms and Vedic mantras. People worship Lord Ganesh for 10 days. This means festival goes for 10 days. Then on the day of Ananta chaturdashi, the idols of Lord Ganesh are carried to the public procession and immersed in the water body. This Ritual is known as Visarjan.

This year Ganesh chaturthi falls on 19th September. Every indian is happy and full of joy on this day. The celebrities are sharing their pictures and videos with idol of Lord Ganesha. The whole India is enchanting hyms and celebrating this joyful festival.
